Walking, Revisions & Food

Yesterday I did my marathon shopping, which entailed two hours at the grocery stores–literally.  That doesn’t include driving there and back, but it does include standing in line, so I’ll say 1 1/2 hours of walking around.  Granted it’s not strenous or brisk walking, but every little bit helps.

My back is killing me!

I’m still plugging along on the revisions.  I’m currently working on the seance scene and having some trouble with it, but I hope to iron it out today and then finish this chapter.  I received my comments from the agent judge of the Stiletto, and I don’t want to talk about it.

On another note, I haven’t mentioned how I’m altering what the kids and I eat.  Yes, our diet.  I hate that words because my whole life it was used to refer to stricting food and going hungry most of the time.  Or starvation techniques, counting calories and being very meticulous about something that should be natural.

Anyway, I went through my cupboards last week and threw out anything old (mostly some salad dressings we never opened and other condiments from the frig).  I then went through the items we currently had to look for hydrogenated oils.  Surprisingly, they weren’t in every single box of cereal, the instant potatoes or the Saltines.  Some of the items will remain and continue to be purchased–like some cereals, the occasional box of Cheeze-its or Goldfish, flour tortillas (I’ll make homemade bread, but I’m not making tortilla too…well, at least not now.  I don’t have a press.). Other items, like Jiff peanut butter, instant oatmeal and pancake mix will remain only until we finish them, and then everything else will never see the inside of my house again.

No more cake mixes, bouillon cubes, margarine (I only used it to butter toast and I can count on two fingers how often we had that), brownie mixes, microwave popcorn.  Of course, we’re not going to stop eating cakes, cookies, popcorn, etc.  It just means a lot more cooking for me.  Like daily!  OMG!  lol  Last night I’m sitting here thinking how hungry I was and there was nothing to eat (other than cereal) that didn’t need to be cooked.  *sigh*

My plan is to make bread of some variety (today is sandwich rolls because I’m dying for an eggplant sandwich in the panini maker with either melted swiss or provolone) and soup, stew or chili daily or every other day.  I have the bread machine and the crock pot, and those items can accompany whatever else we want to eat for the day.  I’m decent about planning dinners but never lunches.  This could alleviate that problem.  Today, I’m making vegetable broth in the crock pot and broccoli soup on the stove.   Potato soup and shrimp gumbo (yes, I’m semi-vegetarian) are on the menu this month too. :P

Ok, guess I’ve talked about food enough. lol  Now back to the revisions.

I really like this blog template as in it’s pretty and I like hte colors, but for some reason the designer fucked up the coding in the post area.  No matter how many breaks (press enter) I put in this section, the words end up publishing without–all smushed together.  I HATE that.  I have to add a pic or change the text from paragraph to one of the header types, which ends up looking stupid.  I’ve gone through the .css and the html on each individual post and can’t figure out how to change it.  It’s a shame too, because I’m going to end up not using this template much shortly.

ENTER BREAK HERE

*sigh*

On a positive note, I edited 35 pages yesterday and am about to start now for today.  Very happy about that, but yesterday evening I had such a headache.  I need to get this done quicker today.  The eyestrain was killing me.

*space*

I did not get any activity done yesterday.  I need to go grocery shopping either today or tomorrow, and that is a two-hour event at two different stores, so that’ll be my activity for that day. :-D

Activity Day 1

Well I guess there was something good about walking around outside, dealing with rude people while your children trick-or-treat.  It’s the walking.  Two hours of walking up and down the neighboring streets.  That constitutes a good workout. :)

There was this one house that opened their door and slammed it, without a word, in my kids’ faces when they said “trick or treat”.  How effing rude.  They had their front light and inside porch light on too.  Of course they turned it off when they slammed the door, but hello morons.  Ok, so you forgot and had your light on, but couldn’t you simply say, “sorry, no candy”?  WTF?  I wanted to go up to them and start banging on their door.  People are lucky I’m so not rude, and that I didn’t raise rude children.

We had a decent time though.  The kids got a large stash of candy, and we went without the neighborhood, which I really liked.  Last year we went with a bunch of neighbors, which was fine and fun, but I didn’t want to do that this year.  I wanted it to only be about us and my family.  I’m tired of everyone in here feeling like we’re one big happy (dysfunctional) family–especially when I don’t care for the way a lot of these kids are being raised.

So, activity for day one–check.  I think I pulled something in my stomach too. :P  Seriously!

Walking

So I happened to crawl past FatChicksRunning today and read several of their inspiring and funny as heck blog posts.  Then I got this wild, crazy hair up my ass and decided to join them.  Yeah, I know.  I sit here every morning and play the hmm, do I feel like walking today game.  Usually the lazy, wanna sit on the couch side wins.  Now, not only have I pledged to them but also to the e-world.  Eeek!

The plan is to get active–to walk through various means (indoor tapes or outside or treadmill).  I want to do it every day, but can’t promise that initially.  I do promise to start slow and walk one mile per session–at least 3 times a week and to work up to daily.  Then I walk to work up the length of each session.  Slow and steady!

Every time I post, I’ll add one for my activity.  I may even occasionally post over at FatChicksRunning.  Gotta love team activities. :P
