Unproductive Day

I didn’t get much outlining done–just a tad. I spent a good deal of the day discussing designing with a friend, Maria Shanti. She designs book covers, and I’ve been thinking about getting into doing websites. There is a lot of coding I’ll need to learn, but that’s not a problem.

It’s something I’ll look into over the next few weeks. We’ll see how it goes. :)

WordPress 2.5, Writing & Productivity

I actually figured out how to upgrade to the newest version of WP.

Last time, I downloaded it and did something wonky, and all of my categories disappeared but were there. Seriously! I saw the boxes but the print was invisible, and I couldn’t change it. After a couple of fatal error messages when I tried to change the theme, I started from scratch–hence my first post.

This time I followed explicit directions and everything seems fine. :D

I’m at a point in TOD’s outline where I’m “stuck”. I have the first act outlined and a couple of scenes throughout the rest, but that’s all. I’m thinking of not pushing it and just writing the first 7 chapters and deal with the rest when I get to it.

Crys and I were discussing productivity. It’s what we’ll be working on for the Mentor Program. For the past 3 years, all I’ve heard is: write and don’t edit. So I have. It works, but I end up with either a lot of holes or the need for major revisions. There’s nothing wrong with that, but every ms? I don’t think so. During our conversation, we talked about my going back and editing the work from the day before, as long as I get my daily quota for the day first. This way, the editing process won’t be so long.

I’m really liking this idea. Now I just have to implement it. :) More of that tomorrow!

Designing & Writing

So, I spent the day re-doing my MySpace page and configuring this blog/site.  Another day designing, and getting no writing done.  Luckily it’s not often that I get the desire to work on graphics, but when I do, I have to see the job completely done.  I can’t just work a little this day and some more tomorrow.  No, it becomes a huge itch that must be scratched right then and until it ends.  If I had these urges monthly or more frequent I’d be in trouble. ;)

There are two weeks until the Mentor Program begins (did I post about that on my last blog? probably not), and until I need to buckle down and get serious about my latest WIP, Tide of Darkness.  I’m very excited about it, and I can’t wait until it’s done.  I planned to spend these pre-mentor weeks outlining, but while the story is still very much desirable, I am having no motivation to outline.   My brain isn’t wanting to figure out what happens in chapter 10.  This could be no big deal or a major catastrophe. ;)  We’ll see how it goes.  I can either spend this weekend lecturing and demanding something or…

I can work on a short story that I want to write, but it too is not wanting to be outlined.  Just write it and don’t worry about the outline, you say?  Yeah, I’ve done that in the past, and it’s not very pretty.  I don’t need to know every minuscule detail, but a fleshed out synopsis wouldn’t hurt at this point.  After dinner tonight, (with no more designing to do) I’ll see which idea wants to be worked on, and I’ll go from there.  But can I write a 20K story in two weeks?  *shrugs*

I’ll let you know how it goes.  For now, I must catch the linguine before it becomes mush, and I like my pasta al dente.
