Yesterday I spent part of the afternoon and evening watching classic adventure movies–you know, the ones with lots of blood, blowouts and guns–with my son and daughter. TNT showed Die Hard, Die Hard 2 and then Terminator 2. My daughter’s seen all three in the past. My son is a huge gun-slash-stunt fan and had never seen them. He’s still young.
So we watched the first and last one. My son came in on the first half-way through. He enjoyed it, although I’m sure he didn’t really understand it. The last one he watched in its entirety and then said it was kinda creepy. :p LOL, yeah, the whole liquid metal dude can be. But while he’ll devour a good zombie movie (no pun intended), robots creep he out. *shrugs* Go figure!

Last night’s movie on Lifetime Movie Network was interesting. First, I thoroughly enjoyed the performances by Jill Scott and Nicole Beharie. They both gave strong, honest, sometimes raw portrayals of a broken mother-daughter relationship.

Sometimes Shay (Nicole’s character) grated on my nerves, but I also can’t imagine growing up with an alcoholic mother who left me all alone for a week to hold up with some guy. The fear she felt as a child had to be unreal, so I can sympathize, but we didn’t learn this until mid-way or later, so listening to her bitchiness in the very beginning was difficult. I pretty much had to grit my teeth and bear it because I knew there had to be a reason or else this awesome-appearing story wouldn’t have been told.
I’m assuming the book got this point across better. They always do.
The only other “problem” was the ending. It was too quick. Another movie issue, I’m sure.
All-in-all though, it was good and definitely worth watching.

When I first saw coming attractions for this show, I thought, hell no! But then I caught a few minutes and realized it really wasn’t that bad. Then I watched a whole episode and lo and behold, it’s actually pretty good. It’s not any different from any other reality let’s-find-the-love-of-my-life-in-a-few-months-on-national-television show, but it’s not as cheesy or gross as some of the others, like Flavor Flave and Real Chance. Ewww!
What I really like is:
- His mother isn’t annoying like she was on those other shows she visited; I Love NY
- His father actually has a backbone and isn’t dominated by his wife, as it appeared on those other shows
- Their house is rather large, so when you hear Frank is living in the basement, it’s not like the basements in smaller homes
- Frank is nice to look at
, and
- The girls have  that typical NY look, lol, love this one
All-in-all, not a bad show if you need to pass some time and enjoy watching girls crumble.
