Trapped by Chris Jordan
I read this book several weeks ago but felt it deserved its own post.

Trapped–This book felt odd and off at first. Written by a man, the main character is the heroine, and it’s written in first person. I remember reading the first Women’s Club books by James Patterson, First to Die, and feeling the same way. Men writing in the POV of women come across sounding non-feminine. Not to say there aren’t non-feminine women in the world, LOL, there are plenty, but it is obvious to me.
Then suddenly, I’m laughing and Jane Hartley is cool. I’m tuning out the little kids running around outside screaming (my son being one of them), and not only do I no longer hear the children, but I’m enjoying Jane so much, her non-feminine voice is a blast.
I admit I skimmed very large portions of it for the last 192 pages, but only in scenes where the villain talked about his people or his delusions or the land or history of the area. That stuff really bores me and most of the time, in all books. It reads like filler to me, but I know others love that stuff. There are times when you can tell Jane Garner (written in first person and the other characters in third) is told by a man, but most of the time it is smooth and the terms used don’t scream man on board. Then again, there are masculine women.
It is not a romance, purely suspense, but I did detect an attraction between Shane and Jane–hey that rhymes.
Nothing happens between them, but that too is fine, because it’s not about them as a couple but as individuals and her relationship with her daughter. An excellent book!
